The recent tragic destruction of some of the world’s most ancient sites, made me think about my recent visit to the British Museum in London which houses so many architectural relics and artifacts from the very part of the world under threat at this moment.
I know that there have been many debates over the years as to whether these items should be repatriated and these discussions are very compelling, but I have to say…… I am very grateful that the beautiful historical items housed in the British Museum are hopefully safe and preserved for future generations.

On this latest visit to London, I was accompanied by my sister, and my niece E, and watching my niece take in the amazing history around her was as interesting as the trip itself! Seeing a younger generation’s world being expanded before your eyes really brings home how important the travel experience can be and visiting the relics of the past in a museum is an important part of that experience.
Learning about history and cultures of the world through their cultural art and artifacts, helps to inform our present and build understanding with other people so as I think about the treasures of humanity that sit protected within the walls of the museum I am thankful that I have had the opportunity to visit the marvels at the British Museum.
